The Many Glacier Hotel, home of The Best Porch in the World, closed down for the season today.  Sigh.  Another sign that Summer has come and gone, though the weather is still unbelievably gorgeous ’round here, with highs in the upper 60s and lows in the upper 30s.

Honeydew and I couldn’t resist a final drive to pay our respects to the grand old hotel.  We were rewarded with a gorgeous moonrise over Mt. Wynn …

A stunning, smoky sunset over the Swiftcurrent Valley …

An intriguing view of Salamander glacier (see how it looks just like a salamander?) …

And a breathtaking view of backlit Glacier National Park as we turned onto our road.

Fires are burning all over Montana – not abnormal for September – but the newly lit Puzzle Creek Fire is the first to really bring the smoke into our valley.

Doesn’t bother us, though.  Fires can be just the ticket to healthy forests, and the smoke makes our sunsets simply smolder.  Our hats are off to all you firefighters out there, putting your safety on the line to best manage the fire for our safety.  Cheers!
